Preparing for your visit

What to bring, what happens at the first appointment, and how the plan is made.

Your visit

What should I bring to my first visit?

Bring a photo ID, your insurance card, and any imaging you already have, including MRI or X-ray discs or reports.

If a sprain, tear, or overuse injury brought you in, a short note on when it started and what made it worse helps Dr. Bishai plan the visit before you sit down together. If another doctor referred you, bring their referral paperwork or ask their office to send it ahead.

Your visit

Do I need a referral to see Dr. Bishai?

No, a referral is not required, though many patients are sent by their primary care doctor or another orthopedic provider.

Dr. Bishai completed fellowship training in orthopedic sports medicine at Plancher Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, and referring physicians often send patients to him for shoulder, knee, and hip concerns that fall within that specialty.

Your visit

What happens during my first appointment?

Your visit covers three parts: your history, a physical exam, and a plan.

You will describe how the injury or pain started and how it affects your day. Dr. Bishai examines the joint involved, whether that is the shoulder, knee, or hip, and reviews any imaging you brought. The visit ends with a plan explained in plain terms, starting with the most conservative option that fits your situation.

Your visit

What happens after my visit?

Most patients leave with a written summary of the plan discussed, including any next steps such as imaging, physical therapy, or a follow-up visit.

If a prescription or referral is part of the plan, the front desk handles it before you leave. Questions that come up afterward can go to the office by phone.

Your visit

Who do I call with questions before my appointment?

Call the Troy office directly, and the front desk can answer scheduling and insurance questions or pass clinical questions to Dr. Bishai's care team.

Dr. Bishai is accepting new patients, so if you are calling to schedule, the same number handles that too.
